Statement
of the delegation of Ukraine at the
Second Regular Session 2024 of the UN-WOMEN Executive Board (10 September 2024)

Thank you, Mister President.

Allow me to thank the UN-Women Executive Board for active effective work this year and wish further successful activities in the remaining months. I am convinced that your unwavering commitment to achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls worldwide would bear fruitful results and root global standards for all to follow.

Allow me to extend our gratitude to Executive Director Ms.Sima Bahous for your insightful remarks and assure of our firm continuous support in the delivery and implementation of policies coming from the UN-Women across its Triple Mandate.

We fully recognize the fundamental importance of the leadership of UN Women and its primary activities aimed at advocating women’s human rights, especially in view of the current global challenges. And we believe that the upcoming Summit of the Future and UNGA-79 will serve as important occasions to further our commitments for gender equality.

Mister President, 

In view of the ongoing aggression of the Russian Federation and its detrimental repercussions in the forms of heightened risks of gender-based violence and massive displacement, the recent Field Visit of UN-Women to Ukraine, along with Moldova and Poland, has showcased an unwavering support towards the work of this organization in my country, for which we are most grateful. We are looking forward to hear more on this tomorrow. As it was mentioned during the annual session, we commend the UN Women’s team in Ukraine resolute commitment to upholding gender equality despite remaining challenges and threats, thus reaffirming our solid and durable partnership.

We welcome report of the Joint Inspection Unit. In the previous session, delegation of Ukraine highlighted the importance of the JIU assessment of governance, especially when tackling the shortcomings of the oversight and governance functions of the Boards. And we thank UN-Women for addressing this issue with its continued transparency throughout the review process.

We also welcome the presentation of the Report on the Structured Dialogue on Financing, aimed at highlighting the most suitable pathways to secure the stable financing of the results of the UN-Women Strategic Plan 2022–2025. To make considerable progress in the achievement of the 17 SDGs, we must guarantee regular, transparent, and predictable funding.

This session presents a unique opportunity to discuss crucial issues to be tackled and form an effective response. Ukraine appreciates the longstanding partnership with UN-Women and looks forward to our further cooperation.
