Khrystyna Hayovyshyn at informal meeting of the plenary to hear a joint briefing

by the Presidents of the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council

Presidents,

Thank you for your insightful briefings.

The Delegation of Ukraine has aligned itself with the Statement on behalf of the European union and would like to make few remarks in national capacity.

The collaboration and coherence between the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council is of paramount importance. This meeting and joint briefing well contribute to fostering such cooperation.

Amid the growing complex challenges facing our world, the United Nations must utilize all measures within its mandate and in accordance with the UN Charter to address these challenges. This work should be carried out through the Organization's key bodies, with the GA and ECOSOC playing particularly vital roles.

Ukraine fully supports the activities of the General Assembly and views it as an effective UN body for addressing threats to international peace and security, including those stemming from Russian aggression against our country at the national, regional, and global levels.

We also recognize the significant role and authority of ECOSOC, which serves as a critical body for economic and social development, environmental protection, combating global challenges such as climate change, and advancing the implementation of the SDGs as an integral part of the UN's mission.

As the candidate for membership in ECOSOC for 2026-2028 Ukraine prioritizes the promotion of the SDGs, with a focus on: advancing efforts to ensure global food and energy security through sustainable and innovative practices; addressing the impacts of climate change and promoting resilience measures; supporting global initiatives to end poverty and reduce inequalities; accelerating digital transformation.

Gender equality and social inclusion are among our priorities, alongside environmental protection and resource management.

We will continue our efforts towards strengthening collaboration with ECOSOC’s functional commissions and subsidiary bodies to enhance their effectiveness in addressing global challenges.

Presidents, you can count on Ukraine’s active engagement in ambitious agenda for the GA and ECOSOC. Ukraine remains committed to working in partnership with you, Member States and all stakeholders to tackle pressing global issues, advancing the 2030 Agenda, implementing the Pact for the Future and achieving sustainable development and human rights for all.
