22 січня 2025 року дипломати, представники українсько-американської та кримськотатарської громад, а також друзі України відзначили День Соборності України – символ єдності нашого народу і нашої держави.
106 років тому було проголошено Акт Злуки, що об'єднав дві українські держави – УНР та ЗУНР, що виникли на руїнах Російської та Австро-Угорської імперій.
«Українська єдність – це не тільки про два береги Дніпра. Це про весь наш світ. Це сьогодні є Україна. Хоч би де ми були. Всі ми, хто народився в різних містах, містечках, селах, усі наші воїни, наші дітки, медики, волонтери, вчителі, енергетики, всі, хто сьогодні, хоч би де він був, скаже: “Я – українець! Я – українка!”»

Sergíy Kyslytsya під час своєї промови додав: «Єдність і солідарність дають нам силу протистояти жорстокій та нелюдській силі. Єдність і солідарність руйнують агресивні плани нашого ворога.»
Сьогодні, в умовах російської агресії, ми як ніколи усвідомлюємо, що єдність – це наш ключ до перемоги, а міжнародна солідарність – запорука миру та безпеки для всього світу.

Шановна українська громадо, Excellences, esteemed guests,
Let me begin by congratulating you on Ukraine’s Unity Day. One hundred and six years ago, the Act of Unification was proclaimed to bring together two Ukrainian entities, emerged on the ruins of two empires – Russian and Austro-Hungarian.
However, it turned out to be much harder to translate those solemn proclamations into reality. Even though all Ukrainian leaders at that time realized that unity is an indispensable prerequisite for freedom.
One hundred years ago internal divisions weakened the nation when solidarity was most needed. And let’s not forget about the wrong strategic choice made by the Entente states which failed to recognize the importance of independent Ukraine for ensuring lasting peace in Europe, and eventually their own security and wellbeing.
The lack of unity within Ukraine itself as well as the absence of unity around Ukraine a century ago was used by Bolsheviks, who clearly understood Ukraine’s critical role in their aggressive plans. As a result, Ukraine’s industrial potential was harnessed to serve the communist empire, while Ukrainians perished in wars that might never have occurred in a Europe with an independent Ukraine.
Today, we see history repeating itself with Russia’s ongoing aggression. The goal remains the same: to strip Ukraine of its statehood, identity, land. To this end, they sow division to weaken us from within, and spare no effort in their attempt to break international solidarity with Ukraine.
But today, we stand on firmer ground. Unlike a century ago, we have learned from our past – both Ukrainians and our allies. Unity and solidarity give us strength to resist the brutal and inhumane force. Unity and solidarity undermine the aggressive plans of our enemy.
That’s why the Day of Unity inspires us with the spirit of togetherness. Like here tonight, in the Ukrainian Institute of America.
