Mr.President, 

We highly appreciate initiative of your mission and Permanent Mission of Spain to convey this timely meeting.

While associating with the statement of EU I would like to make some comments in my national capacity.

We hearted strong voices from the representatives of the countries who are in the frontline of climate change to deliver them urgent assistance.

We should accept the fact that climate change is not a future scenario. It is happening now. The assistance should be provided immediately.

It is extremely important that practically all members of the UN Security Council recognized both direct and indirect impact of climate change on peace and security.

Professor Michel Gerrard presented clear arguments why the issue of the climate change implications on security should be under the umbrella of the UN Security Council. It is important that none of the member of the UN Security Council rejected these arguments.

It is a good signal that UN Security Council is in proses of its reformation.

It is extremely important that the majority of today’s reporter echoed in favor of preventing diplomacy the UN Security Council should play.   

Saying that I would like to suggest as a part of the answer on your question, what role Security Council could play to cope with current threats for security for such countries as Kiribati, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Marshall Islands and others. It is to consider the inclusion in permanent agenda of the UN Security Council.

For sure 2009 UN Secretary General report should be updated to serve as an action plan for the United Nations community to perform in commitments to preserve and maintain peace and security.
