We are continuing our close partnership with the United States to safeguard Ukraine's cultural treasures that Russian occupiers are attempting to steal.
On September 23, at the premises of the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the United Nations, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security for Strategy, Policy, and Plans, Robert Silvers, handed over four medieval iron sabers, dated to the 9th – 13th centuries, to Ukraine’s
Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications, Mykola Tochytskyi.
This marks the third ceremony of its kind. In September 2023, during President Zelenskyy's visit to the U.S., we saw the return of priceless artifacts, including Scythian akinakas (short swords) and a bronze sword dating back to the 6th century BC.
Special thanks to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which has played a crucial role in recovering these stolen pieces. Their ongoing efforts, alongside the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, have ensured the protection of our heritage through vital restrictions and cooperation.
