Statement of Ukraine at the Briefing by the Secretary-General on the New Agenda for Peace, an Our Common Agenda policy brief for the Summit of the Future

Excellency,

I would like to thank you for your insightful briefing on the New Agenda for Peace.
We commend that the policy brief contains a clear identification of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by the Russian Federation as one of the most challenging violations of international law.
We fully agree with your statement that each violation of international law is dangerous, as it undermines one of the purposes of the United Nations contained in Article 1 of its Charter.
Ukraine considers this provision should serve as a basis for our further deliberations. It is, therefore, necessary to focus on seeking an efficient answer to this threat in our further endeavors within the New Agenda for Peace framework.
The New Agenda should provide us with a clear vision on how to respond to security threats and challenges stemming from armed aggression of one state against another state, in order to restore respect to the fundamental principles and norms of international law, including the UN Charter.
We rely on your leading role to accelerate the full and timely implementation of this framework, and to spearhead our efforts to ensure tangible outcomes of the Summit of the Future.
Our position is very clear: we should work on ways of how to put an end to wars of aggression across the globe and hold the perpetrators of the most serious international crimes accountable.
Producing a forward-looking and result-oriented Pact of the Future remains one of our priorities.
