Statement by the Delegation of Ukraine on a point of order to move that the General Assembly not take action on draft resolution A/80/L.3 submitted by Belarus
Madam President,
The General Assembly has just adopted its resolution on the strengthening of international cooperation and coordination of efforts to study, mitigate and minimize the consequences of the Chornobyl disaster.
There is no further need for a second resolution on the same question.
The Belarus draft doesn’t have cross-regional co-sponsorship. It contains terminology contradicting the one in the resolution we just adopted.
Pursuant to rule 91 of the General Assembly’s rules of procedure, we move that the Assembly not take action on the draft resolution submitted by Belarus.
Ukraine will vote YES and urge all delegations to support this motion.
