Comments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on the misinformation in the Russian media on the alleged use of a prohibited weapon by the Ukrainian Armed Forces
24 July 2014 17:05

With the support of the Kremlin and Russian media terrorist armed groups in the east of Ukraine have not only started military actions against the Ukrainian Armed Forces and civilian population, but also have launched dirty media war. The report on the allegedly phosphorus munitions attacks on Lysychansk by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on 22 July 2014, had become another glaring example of blatant lies and misinformation in the leading Russian media.

Officials from the Russian Federation having no proofs behind it tried to blame the Armed Forces of Ukraine involved in the anti-terrorist operation of the alleged use of a prohibited weapon.

It’s not the first time when the Russian side displays deliberately fabricated evidence and false information as an official position, trying to mislead its citizens and the whole international community.

In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine officially states that Ukrainian units involved in the anti-terrorist operation do not possess phosphorus munitions.

Any attempts of the Russian side to accuse Ukrainian Armed Forces of phosphorus munitions use are groundless and blatant provocations deliberately made to discredit the anti-terrorist operation forces.

We call on the international community to pay attention to the proofs available to the competent authorities of Ukraine of terrorists’ negotiations on receiving phosphorus munitions from Russia for "Grad" volley fire systems. We also urge the international community to condemn the criminal actions and intentions of terrorists to obtaining and using this banned weapon against Ukrainian military and civilians.
